There's nothing quite like sipping a cool lemonade on a breezy patio. This lemonade combines bourbon and ginger for a flavour packed twist on an old classic.

This recipe will give you a one litre pitcher of lemonade. You can add a cup of bourbon to the pitcher beforehand if you like or add it later and have fresh lemonade available for anyone who wants a non-alcoholic drink. For this recipe Old Grandad bourbon works really well.

Overhead shot of four Bourbon Ginger Lemonades

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 6-8 Lemons
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 6 oz Rootside Ginger Beer
  • 4 Cups Ice Cold Water
  • 1 cup Old Grandad Bourbon
  • Candied Ginger for Garnish

Instructions

Use a vegetable peeler to take the zest off your lemons in nice big strips. Toss the lemon zest in the sugar and let it sit. If you're ahead of the game let it sit overnight. If you only have 15 or 20 minutes to let the zest infuse the sugar, it will still work. You’ll still get some flavour benefit. Juice those lemons and pour the juice on the sugar. Stir that up until it has a syrupy consistency. Then add Rootside Ginger Beer Mix and your cold water. Mix it up really well. Add your favourite bourbon (we recommend Old Grandad) and serve with lots of ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon and candied ginger.
