Environmentally Conscious Practices
We have deep-rooted beliefs that sustainable initiatives should be more than a practice, but a priority.
We have made impactful changes by sourcing local product, improving our building's energy efficiency, reducing the amount of waste we generate and supporting local charities & non-profit organizations. We are committed to being environmental stewards.
We are proud to attain the highest certification level from the Vancouver Island Green Business Certification Program and with Surfrider for all six of our locations.
The VIGBC was developed to help provide a set of tangible actions for businesses to tread a little lighter on the environment.
Surfrider Approved Businesses are granted a certification for taking leadership in reducing their overall plastic footprint.
A bit about the verification process
It is key for a green business certification to be verified by a third party for accountability, transparency and credibility. Every business that receives a VIGBC seal of certification will complete a third party assessment by a verifier to complete the VIGBC process. Verifiers will conduct a site visit to assess the company's operations and interview key staff.
Retailers have a responsibility to be leaders in usage and disposal of products. Mindful business practices demonstrates commitment to more than simply turning a profit and encourages stronger environmental focus.
The entire VIGBC certification, including a Surfrider Approved decal is $250/year. 10% of proceeds goes towards the local Rise Above Plastics program, which reduces the impact of plastics in the marine environment.
