Vancouver Island Brewery / Victoria, BC
Vancouver Island Brewery was the Island's first craft brewery. From humble beginnings in a small warehouse in Central Saanich in 1984, it began by handcrafting a small selection of draught only products for pub customers on Vancouver Island.
The hand-crafted, all natural beers from this locally owned and operated brewery have won numerous international awards.
Their philosophy is to brew world-class beers that reflect life on the west coast; clean, fresh and natural.

Piper's Pale Ale was named in honour of Canadian war hero Piper James C. Richardson, who was lost during the battle of the Somme during WWI and awarded a Victoria Cross for his acts of bravery. Piper Richardson braved the trenches and began to play his bagpipes, inspiring the troops into battle with fury and determination.
After assisting a wounded comrade back to safety and escorting enemy prisoners, he realized he had left his pipes behind and was lost in action while attempting to retrieve them. In Piper's memory, we salute his bravery and toast in his honour!
Piper Richardson's bagpipes were retrieved from battle and are currently on display in the BC Parliament Building's foyer in Victoria, British Columbia.
